With LGA to Spain

Spain is a fascinating country full of contrasts and cultural diversity! Located on the Iberian Peninsula, along with Portugal and the Principality of Andorra, Spain is surrounded by an impressive variety of bodies of water, including the Atlantic Ocean, the Cantabrian Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea. Its geographical location on the Iberian Peninsula shapes not only the climate but also the landscapes, wildlife, and plants, making the country a paradise for nature and adventure lovers. The diverse and impressive landscape ranges from majestic mountain ranges to golden sandy beaches. Therefore, Spain offers a wide range of outdoor activities such as hiking, mountaineering, surfing, and diving.

The captivating cities of Spain, including the capital Madrid, Barcelona, and Seville, offer numerous attractions such as museums, art galleries, and architectural masterpieces that draw visitors from all over the world. From impressive Gothic cathedrals to Moorish palaces and vibrant street markets, Spain's cities provide an unforgettable cultural experience.

However, Spain is not only known for its breathtaking nature and cities but also for its rich cultural history and vibrant traditions. Spanish cuisine is famous for its variety and flavor, from delicious tapas and paellas to exquisite seafood and traditional desserts like churros with chocolate. Spain is also the land of Flamenco, the passionate dance and captivating music that touches the hearts of people around the world.

Our partner in Spain

We work together with a very experienced local partner organisation. Your local coordinator is your direct support and person of trust. Contact him/her if you need help or assistance. We receive regular reports from Spain informing us about your well-being. We are always available for you and your parents during office hours - in emergencies you can also call our 24-hour emergency number.

Sprache

Spanish is the official language throughout the country. However, Catalan, Basque and Galician are also co-official languages in some regions. We advise you to take part in a Spanish course before your departure if you have no previous experience with the Spanish language. Students with no knowledge of the language are accepted, but in this case we recommend taking part in the three-week, fee-based online Spanish course.

Schools

The school system is divided into three main phases. The first two are compulsory. The last is aimed at students between the ages of sixteen and eighteen who wish to continue their education in the future. Most exchange students are placed in the first year of the Bachillerato. The school year starts at the beginning of September and ends in June. The year is divided into three terms, interrupted by the Christmas and Easter holidays. Classes take place from Monday to Friday, usually from 8am to 2pm.

Host families

Spanish host families are committed, passionate, talkative and open. Communication is key to a successful experience, so be prepared to express yourself. You will participate in daily activities as a new family member, with rights and responsibilities. Please respect and follow the house rules! You will be expected to share your culture and lifestyle with them. If the family has younger children, they will want you to converse with them from time to time in English or even in your native language to help them broaden their horizons. Think of this as a way of working together at home. You will love this lifestyle - big family and friend gatherings, long days outdoors, sports, cultural activities and good food!
