With LGA to Argentina

Argentina, the eighth largest country in the world, has a rich diversity of culture, history, and nature. The name of the country is derived from the Latin term for silver – Argentum – reflecting the colonial era when people hoped to find precious metals here.

About a third of the population is in the metropolitan area of the capital, Buenos Aires, a true melting pot of cultures and life. Buenos Aires is considered a major cultural center in the Americas, where Tango Argentino originated. This dance form reflects the soul and passion of Argentinians and attracts visitors from all over the world.

The population of Argentina is as diverse as the country itself. It comprises many ethnic groups, from European immigrants to indigenous peoples who have lived in this region for centuries. The official and instructional language is Spanish, but there are also many minority languages spoken by the indigenous population. It is beneficial if you already have a basic knowledge of Spanish or at least speak French or Italian, as these languages are often understood as well. Argentina is a place full of contrasts and adventures, from the majestic peaks of the Andes to the endless plains of the Pampas. It is a country that will enchant you with its beauty and fascinate you with its culture.

Our partner in Argentina

We work with a very experienced local partner organisation that selects suitable schools and host families. During a one-week preparation seminar, which includes a language course, the students are well prepared by our partner and supported during their whole stay abroad. Our LGA team in Switzerland is also there for you - during normal office hours and around the clock in the case of difficulties.

Schools

Most schools in Argentina are the whole day. Wearing a school uniform is compulsory at almost all of them. The school year begins in February or July (2nd semester) and ends in mid-December. If you want to start in July and stay for a whole year, your program finishes at the end of June. Apart from the compulsory subjects, you can also choose artistic and musical classes. Of course, sports are also a must: Rugby, football, tennis, hockey and polo are among the most popular sports. School subjects are organised according to the timetable of the class you are assigned to. This is normally based on your age.

Host families

The host families in Argentina are helpful, warm and welcoming. You live with a family and have the same rights and obligations as the other household members. It is important that you are always open, honest and respectful and follow the house rules. You will quickly immerse yourself in Argentinian culture and love it!
