With LGA to the USA

The United States of America, or USA, is a fascinating country with an impressive area of about 9,827,000 km² and a population of around 328 million people. As the third-largest country in the world, the USA offers an incredible diversity of landscapes, cultures, and experiences.

The USA spans six time zones and encompasses 50 different states, from the icy expanses of Alaska to the tropical beaches of Hawaii. Each state has its own traditions and unique culture to explore. This vast geographical diversity results in extreme temperature and climate differences—from the hot deserts of Arizona to the snow-capped peaks of the Rocky Mountains.

As an "immigration country," the USA is a melting pot of cultures. People from all over the world have found a new home here and brought their traditions and customs with them, leading to a rich cultural mix. This is reflected in the daily lives of Americans, whether in the diverse cuisine, numerous holidays, or the many different religions practiced in the country.

The USA offers numerous opportunities to learn and improve the English language. It is home to many world-renowned universities and colleges and is known for its innovation and pioneering spirit. Whether in a big city like New York City, Los Angeles, or Chicago, or in a quieter small town—there are countless opportunities to immerse yourself in American culture and make new friendships.

The USA is known for its friendly and open people, who warmly welcome visitors and are eager to share their way of life. Whether visiting the impressive national parks, participating in traditional American festivals, or exploring the many attractions—a stay in the USA offers countless opportunities for adventure and education.

Our partner in the USA

We work together with a very experienced partner organisation in America, which selects suitable schools and host families. At a 4-day preparatory seminar in Los Angeles or New York, the students are optimally prepared by our partner and supported during their stay abroad. Our LGA team in Switzerland is also there for you - during normal office hours and in case of problems around the clock on the emergency number.

Schools

Like something out of a Hollywood film - Nothing is more typical than attending high school in the USA: yellow school buses, proms, various sports activities, different clubs, "letterman" jackets and so on. The American school system can vary from state to state. One major difference to Switzerland is that there are no fixed classes. Students can choose different courses depending on their interests and ability level. Another important part of American school life is the activities offered by the high school after the regular classes. Depending on the school, there is a wide range of different sports and study groups (so-called clubs). As a result, the majority of free time is spent on the school grounds. This creates a strong sense of connection to your own school and offers you a great opportunity to integrate quickly and easily into everyday school life and make new friends!

Host families

The family is an important part of everyday life in the USA. With host families carefully selected and checked by our partner, you will experience the life of a typical American at first hand. You become a natural part of the family and have your rights. For example, they will take you to their favourite restaurant or you will get to know all their relatives and friends at events such as Thanksgiving. But you also have your duties. For example, your host family expects you to help with the housework on a regular basis. Simply put, just like at home. Believe us - American host families are far more diverse than the stereotypes shown on TV or in films. Make your own experiences and get to know American family life!
